This battered little notebook is my travel Field Notes. I bought it in August of 2016 (over 10 years ago) at London Graphic Centre in Covent Garden, London. It’s the Field Notes Balsam Fir limited edition (then called Field Notes Colors). As you can see it’s been through a lot.
The notebook contains mostly lists:
- Pre-trip planning lists
- Packing lists
- Places to visit
- Shopping lists
- Clothing and shoe size reference lists (my sizes in various brands)
- Tax return lists
Yes, I have an iPhone with me and I can keep track of these things on various apps, but I like keeping this notebook. It’s become an artefact, a physical memento of my travels. And notebooks never run out of batteries…

Enjoyed your post. I do keep a journal and I’ve always used Field Notes also with the original Kraft version in the 3 paper types over the years. Perfect tool.

Yes! My wallet houses a Field Notes-like notebook, but from Lochby. The paper from Lochby is more fountain pen friendly, but the Field Notes are nicer looking. Still choosing quality paper over the outer design of the notebook, though!
