This is the Diamine Inkvent 2023 day 12 door:
Day 12’s ink is Diamine Bah Humbug. It’s a chameleon ink.
I think this is one of the darkest chameleon inks we’ve seen from Diamine. Bah Humbug’s base ink colour is a deep, dark wine red, very saturated. The chameleon shimmer brings light and interest into it — pink, gold, red glitter flash in its depths, making this a very attractive red ink.
This is the perfect ink for use on cream or off-white paper, and an excellent choice for greeting cards or present labels. It’s very saturated so there’s very little shading.
The bear I sketched this time is a replica of a 1907 bear. I decided to give it a more caricature like treatment. You can see some of the chameleon shimmer on the page here, particularly in his bow:
From a different angle you can see more of the chameleon shimmer, particularly in the eyes and the bow:
And here’s Bully Bear Minor himself:
I love the name Diamine chose for this ink. Do you have any favourite holiday themed inks with clever names in your collection?

For the names, my personal preference is not to have them restricted to a single season especially if it’s a color I might use year-round. So glacier is fine with me because it’s a winter color as well as a winter name, but if I called this thing Bah Humbug I’d only use it from December 1st-25th each year. Maybe not even then, since my enthusiasm for the “holiday season” is fairly limited. My friend and I have renamed Humbug: we call it Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? because aside from the shimmer it looks quite like the purple-red colored ink Virginia Woolf penned her manuscripts in. I’m actually loving the fact that Diamine has restricted the number of Christmas-specific names in the calendar, but I get that there are different tastes and some people are delighted by them. And I can always come up with a different name and slap a new label on a bottle I like if it comes with a name like Jingle Berry or Bah Humbug.

I always start each day’s ink evaluation by taking a brush and putting a swatch of in on the appropriate calendar day. When I did that with “Bah Humbug” I literally gasped with delight. I absolutely love this ink — the depth of color, the sheen, and the pretty reflective colors after you’ve written with it. It may change my mind about shimmer inks. I plan to write all my holiday greetings with it … whatever holiday!
