This is the Diamine Inkvent 2024 Day 16 door:

Day 16’s ink is Diamine Tundra, a standard grey brown ink with a good amount of shading. I used a Lamy LX fountain pen with a fine nib to test out this ink.

Diamine Tundra really brings out the drab in this year’s calendar, because what’s Christmas without a mousy brown ink?

I had the same reaction to Diamine Tundra as I had when seeing 2025’s Pantone colour of the year: but why?

Diamine Tundra is a pale raw umber colour so it work well for sketching, especially with its shading properties. That’s one of the few things it has going for it.

Today’s bear is tiny (not much larger than the size of your hand) and is a one of a kind British bear called Murdock. I bought him in York and he’s designed and made by Carole Richardson.

I have no idea what made Diamine think that including Tundra in this year’s calendar was a good idea. Was there a need for a depressing colour? Did someone lose a bet? In any case I’m not going to purchase a full bottle of this ink, even though I often use my fountain pens for sketching and it’s a decent colour for that.
What do you think about Diamine Tundra? Do you like it?

Oh I love it!! It’s the colour of earth and bare branches… And I love standard, non-shimmery/sparkly inks, as I prefer using EF nibs. It’s why I didn’t buy the calendar this year – there’s so few ‘ordinary’ (i.e. non-fancy) inks. Just give me a good, solid ink with which I can write legibly 🙂

Very much like Pantone’s color of the year… close to support hose and orthopedic shoes. 🤣

Nice review, as usually, Danny. However, I only partly agree with you. It might not look a worthy part of the Inkvent calendar. Yet, it finds its sweet spot amongst the other shimmery, shiny inks. It balances the extreme side of inks with being standard. That is quite a feat.
If there is one ink from THIS Inkvent calendar that I will choose to buy and pair with my Pilot Custom 823 (in Amber color), then this will be it. I usually carry that pen to the office. As of now, I use Diamine Gingerbread that pairs with the pen rather well. But, I wouldn’t mind experimenting with another shade of brown, which is more toward the “potato” side of color shades. This ink seems a shade darker than Coloverse’s Giant Potato. And, I’d like to own one that’s more leaning toward Giant Potato than Tundra. Gingerbread shades well, too. I reckon this one is in the grey-area (puns intended) of Gingerbread. 🙂

I like this one a lot too. Very unusual and interesting grey and while it is not a very festive colour, it’s a very wintry one. “Earth and bare branches” is a nice description, it made me think of MR James and his brand of spooky Christmas fun.

I didn’t know what to make of the name , but I love the colour. I think it is really subtle and almost mysterious. I hope it would make a good everyday ink.
